Lauren + Anson’s Midland Arts + Antiques Engagement session was the perfect start to my 2017 photo season. We met up at Midland early this spring on a gorgeous sunny afternoon. You know those days that are neither too hot nor too cold, well it was one of those.
We spent the first half of the session exploring all the treasures Midland has to offer. I totally battled with feeling like I should probably redecorate my entire house immediately because there are SOOOO many super cool items especially if you love antique, rustic, mid-century and/or industrial items. I legitimately would go broke if I frequented this place more.
I’ve been wanting to do a shoot at Midland for awhile now and it just so happened that I finally found the perfect couple to photograph there because Lauren + Anson actually got engaged at Midland! I’m always a sucker for a great proposal so you can imagine how excited I was when Lauren described her proposal in one of our email correspondences:
“Back in September Anson went and purchased an antique trunk at Midland Antiques where they stored it for him until December 10th. The day began like any other normal date we would go on, he came picked me up, went to brunch (breakfast food is one of our absolute favorites), and then had plans of exploring Midland Antiques. As we moved through the antique mall I was intrigued by everything I saw. We dreamt of purchasing different items for our future dream home in the country. As we continued through the store we got to one particular booth, there wasn’t a lot in it that I was drawn to so I started to walk out. Anson begins to draw me back in pointing out this really cool old trunk. He starts to open it and I notice that it is full of books, letters, and various mementos. It suddenly hits me this is OUR STUFF! There was a letter on the top that read “My Dearest Lauren” and as he began to read it to me he recounted the journey the Lord has brought us on in our relationship. Throughout this whole time I’m taking in every single moment, not wanting to miss even the tiniest detail. Internally the logical side of me is telling me don’t freak out, he may not actually be proposing at this exact moment, maybe this is just the beginning of a magical day together. But then about halfway through the letter I realized “No, this is it!” and the waterworks began. He reaches down inside the trunk and pulls out a box of kleenex. He finishes up reading the letter and gets down on one knee and asks the question I have dreamt about since I was a little girl, “Lauren Nicole Smith, will you marry me?” I’m not quite sure if I let him get the whole sentence out before I said yes yes yes of course!”
Basically one of my most favorite proposal stories, ever.
After we exhausted exploring Midland we popped over to Neidhammer Coffee for some photos in their super cool event space and with their delicious lattes.
I had the BEST time with these two. They made my job so easy and I’m counting down the days until their wedding later this spring!
